A Birthday Before Halloween
Happy Halloween
A birthday before Halloween
Anne of Gingham and Bows grew up with a birthday a few days before Halloween, so every party her mom threw had a Halloween theme. This year she set a black, cream and orange table in her Vermont home and brought a little of that childhood back with it.
The moment
Stripes, bows and a little nostalgia
The felt Happy Halloween banner went up first, black and orange letters on cream with scalloped edges. Underneath it, Anne layered the black and cream striped scalloped plates over her own gingham runner, tucked a Spooky Season plate on top of each stack, and set out the striped cups with the Happy Halloween straws. Cupcakes went on a black cake stand, and the pumpkin plate with its black and cream bow held the extras.

It reads like a grown-up version of a kid's Halloween birthday, which is exactly the point.
These adorable Halloween pieces immediately reminded of the birthday parties my mom created for me when I was growing up. My birthday is a few days before Halloween, so my parties always had a Halloween theme, and I loved bringing a little of that childhood nostalgia to this tablescape.

Why Halloween
The magic, all over again
“I love Halloween for all the nostalgia that comes with it. The crisp fall weather, childhood memories of trick-or-treating, and the excitement of the season. Some of my sweetest memories are of getting to experience that magic all over again when I took our own children trick-or-treating.”
